ABOUT:

For 25 years, Leelanau Montessori Public School Academy has provided hundreds of families in Leelanau County with a unique and invaluable option, a tuition-free K-6 public Montessori education, one that cultivates curiosity, strengthens critical thinking, builds independence, and fosters a lifelong love of learning.

As a public charter school, we are publicly funded but do not receive local property tax millage support for facilities like traditional public school districts. As a result, building costs must be paid from the same per-pupil funds that support daily operations. This creates lower overall funding levels and impacts our ability to build long-term financial sustainability.

This year, several external factors converged—changes in public funding, rising operating costs, and shifts in area enrollment patterns—creating a critical gap of $1,500 per student ($150,000 total) needed to maintain operations, ensure stability in staffing and programming, and responsibly manage our mortgage and facility costs.

You will:
  • Protect the future of public Montessori education in our community
  • Maintain continuity of education for 100+ current students
  • Strengthen our foundation as long-term sustainability strategies are implemented
